Aled Rheon: Wrap Up Warm

from #MoreInCommon HOPE not hate by Various Artists

about

Hailing from Cardiff, via Carmarthen and London, and performing in both his native Welsh and English, troubadour Aled Rheon draws his influences from his love of traditional Welsh folk music combined with a childhood spent in rural Wales and infused with his experience of love and life in the city.

There’s a quiet, lonesome grandeur that sets his music apart and Aled’s haunting soulful melodic vocals, dreamy heartfelt lyrics and unique finger-picking style have sparked inevitable comparisons to the likes of Welsh folk legend Meic Stevens and Nick Drake.

Aled released his debut Welsh-language EP Sêr yn Disgyn (‘Stars are Falling’) to in 2013 on JigCal Records. Recorded at Seindon Studios in Cardiff, the record was produced by Osian Gwynedd (Sibrydion), mixed by Cian Ciaran (Super Furry Animals) and featured some of Wales’ finest musicians; including The Gentle Good’s Gareth Bonello, Greta Isaac and Dan Lawrence (Olion Byw).

Keen on developing and honing his skills as a performer, Aled spent 2014-15 concentrating on playing live: writing on the road. Notable performances include: Green Man, Festival Number 6, Fire in The Mountain Festival, Tafwyl, Swn Festival, WOMEX 13, Machynlleth Comedy Festival, Big Cwtch, FOCUS Wales, Hay Festival and BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Aled was lucky enough to be chosen from hundreds of artists to be one of the BBC Horizons 12 project in 2015.

Radio play has come from Bethan Elfyn and Adam Walton on BBC Introducing Wales; Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1; Mary Anne Hobbs, Chris Hawkins and Tom Robinson on BBC 6 music and a live set on Steve Lamacq for BBC Radio 6 Music in 2016.

Aled released a AA-side single 'Stay With Me/Wrap Up Warm' in Summer 2016; which was soon followed by the critically acclaimed 'A Gorgeous Charge' EP.
